When did baseball players start wearing their pants over their socks?

Traditionally baseball players wear their socks over the bottom of their pants up to the knee. Most major league ball players wear their pants over the socks down to the shoes. I am curious as to when this started.|||I looked through World Series pictures. This didn't happen in the 60s series even once. In fact, I first found it in the 90s pictures.
