What is a baseball specific workout that will increase my throwing velocity and also help me hit farther?

Any baseball players out there, please let me know what you do to gain muscle for hitting and pitching.

Does anyone use kettlebells? What about resistance bands?|||Squats, you can't do anything without a strong base, it will increase your velocity and your bat speed.

Core workouts, will both increase bat speed, and your velocity, as well as make you overall more athletic.

If you go only, their are numerous kettleball workouts for all sorts of sports, kettle balls can be your best friends if you use them right.

Don't forget to workout the basics, work your swing, throw long toss. All those basics are things many young players forget about, because they only want to hit the weight room and get bigger.|||Check out the 3X Pitching Velocity Program. It comes with the Ace Pitcher Handbook which has the throwing program and the strength and conditioning program. I got to 94mph with it and also hit 7 homeruns as a pitcher in a professional season.

|||I call it the lumberjack work out, not really sure the real name of it. but you get a rubber plate weight that you'd use for power cleans and swing it like your cutting down a tree with an axe (similar to a baseball swing, but don't follow through, stop once you "hit the tree")

What are good baseball drills to help me improve?

I am on a senior league baseball team. I am a centerfielder. I am great at catching flyballs. I am very fast and cunning so I don't need any baserunning drills. I am very inconsistent at batting and fielding ground balls. What are good drills or excersizes to help me improve?|||Well, this is a good drill for contact with the ball when batting. What you do is set up a couple of very thin items down through your street. If your street is small, try to look for a longer street. Next, you ask someone to drive you down your street at the maximum speed limit. You take your bat, reach outside of your fully open window in your regular batting stance and try to hit as many of the THIN items as you can.

This especially works with a more widely known street so it'll have a larger speed limit, in which you can have the person drive faster.

Make sure the item you choose is very thin, (since it resemnles the ball.) Also make sure that you use items that don't matter if they break. Lastly, make sure you DON'T hit any mailboxes, street poles, etc.

This routine helped me when I was training to become a great baseball superstar and now I am on one of my states' Minor League AAA teams.|||kidding? in my neighborhood you wouldn't make 1/2 a block without being arrested or shot at.

|||I find long toss to be great. It strengthens the arm and prevents injury. Anything that builds stamina and conditioning that involves running and throwing. If you have a problem with ground ball nothing beats just the repetition of having ground balls hit to you. Baseball is funny when it comes to training in that all of the weights, conditioning and everything else is great but nothing improves your skills like practising the fundamentals. Make sure that you have someone that doesn't mind putting the time in with you.|||Go ask Tom Emanski and Fred McGriff. How did Baseball go from the national past time to the most boring professional sport in America?

Growing up baseball was the sport. It was America's past time. Now I call it sports purgatory because it is the most boring time of all the four major sports in America. I am just glad that the World Cup is on this summer.

What happened? How did baseball fall? Was it steroids? The unions? Greedy owners? Unnecessary expansion? All the strikes? ESPN SportsCenter's emphasis on highlights as opposed to the story of a baseball game? Price of tickets?|||Here's an analytical perspective. Baseball was THE SPORT of the Radio Age. Young Kids and their sports obsessed fathers sitting by a Radio listening to announcers describe "Towering balls hit by (Insert Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, etc. here) that could reach the moon" They'd sit there and even keep an at home scorecard. Everything was described BIG. Curveballs went from head to toe. Home Runs were 400 foot blasts. All these descriptions filled a lot of space.

To this day some folks listen to radio broadcasts of Baseball instead of watching the TV Broadcasts. I watched the Yankee games with the sound off and turned the radio on until Michael Kay went to TV. Now I actually listen to the TV's sound.

Then came TV. And we got to see that Pitchers spend a lot of time scratching themselves between pitches. Curveballs don't go head to toe. Oh yeah and 400 ft. is from here to where I parked my car.

Then came the Highlight reel. This actually helped baseball for a while.

Then came the digital age. Games, PC's (Or Macs), etc. Things started getting faster. Basball didn't. (And no help from the Human rain delay Steve Trachsel mind you.) Football, Basketball, and Hockey (All very condusive to TV) get faster. Video Games of those sports rival the pace of the real games. Baseball's games. Well, to this day only one company has gotten a Baseball video game right. Acclaim's All Star Baseball (Now out of business no longer making that game because all their other games stunk.)

Baseball is sort of an Athletic Chess. It's just a slower game. They've tried to incease Home Run output in hopes of increasing interest. However, I think they failed. For years, Baseball was the US's answer to Soccer. Our slow defensive game with a 3-2 score. The anticipation for the one big blow. The Home Run to ice the game had us captivated. The same way the rest of the world waits for that moment the announcer yells GOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!!!!! But, Home Runs happen all the time now.

So now Baseball to the younger generation is a slow game with great highlight reels. Watching it for them is difficult. Some guy scratches himself a lot while the announcer tells you how great his record is when pitching in day games on the equinox if he's at least more then 450 nautical miles North by Northwest of Fiji.

All that said. I do love Baseball. So much.|||Salaries for players burned a lot of people out. However Baseball is NOT boring.|||it's baseball, what do you expect? Kids who are too fat and wimpy play Baseball, since you have the excuse of playing a sport but without the excercise. If you want your kids to get good excerise (and alot of parents have realized this) they put them in soccer. Less kids playing little league, less kids giving a crap about baseball when they grow up. Baseball sucks. Although I do have to say that up here in Yankee and Red Sox country, baseball is alive and well as a popular sport.|||Call it boring if you want, but baseball revenue is off the chain. Minus a few struggling franchises the stadiums remain packed and the price of everything is going up. This happens for a reason and its not because baseball suddenly became boring. Maybe you grew up, or maybe its just soooo big now that it doesn't seem like our game anymore. Either way its always going to be a hot sport with an enormous fan base.|||it's not boring, that's what most people say about soccer and they're wrong too...|||easy...NFL...|||You actually think baseball is more boring than basketball?|||I still love baseball. And I think there's more fanatics like me than there ever have been in history at this point so it hasn't exactly fallen... the Yankees and Mets sold out a 55,000+ seat stadium for 3 days in a row this past weekend (again). It's actually doing quite well even if it can be (I admit) potentially extremely boring. BUT, and it might sound kind of obvious, when you're actually interested in the action on the field, it's gotta be one of the least boring sports. Very funny game, too.|||I don't believe baseball is boring.

America has changed. Americans love face pased, hard core action, hard hitting, etc. This all has helped lead to football becoming the new pasttime with basketball and hocky also gaining popularity.|||Baseball hasn't gotten boring. American's have just gotten dumber. Baseball is a game of anticipation and strategy... and all Americans want these days is instant gratification and/or blood.

Don't worry though, the few intelligent Americans left are still watching the game (and voting against Bush).

Will washing a baseball cap in the dishwasher ruin the cardboard or plastic frame in the hat?

i've never washed a baseball cap before and i want to wash my friends'. i don't want to ruin it because it's not mine. i heard of those hat shaper things you can buy before you put it in the dishwasher, but the shape won't work for his hat because he bends the front part into a curve like a semicircle. would wrapping the curve around a mug work or will the dishwasher ruin the frame no matter what?|||i don't think that i would wash it in the dishwasher, i have seen the hat racks that you put the hat in and then wash it in the washing machine, it keeps the shape of the hat, plus you need to watch, if its a wool hat you shouldn't wash those at all.|||ok the dish washer is for dishes. get the hat thing for the washer and wash it. he can bend it back again. just dont put it in the dish washer.|||It will ruin it.|||dishwasher works great for hats! Which baseball team would you say has reasonable and prices for parking?

Out of all the Major, Minor, and Independent Baseball Leagues that play baseball, which team would you say has reasonable prices for parking when you go to attend a baseball game? This could be a Major League Baseball team, Minor League Baseball or an Independt League Baseball team not affilated with MLB or MILB. You can even have a College Baseball Team if you like.

I would say that the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field have reasonable prices for parking and you can park for around $10 for reasonable parking either in the stadium parking lot or near the stadium in city lots.|||The Kansas City T-Bones (Independent League team) have free parking and the tickets start at $6.00 and go up to $14.50. How many baseball books do you read each year?

Reading about baseball and its history is obviously a great way to learn and understand the game, so I'm just curious to know how many you read each year. You can include annuals like BP, and even fiction if you'd like.|||At least 12 or more a year from the public library.

Right now I am reading another book on the ***** Leagues.

BTW, if you are ever in Kansas City, you have to take an afternoon to go to the ***** Leagues museum. At 18th and Vine, near the site of the former A's-Royals-Chiefs-Monarchs-Blues ballpark, Municipal Stadium. Exits well marked off I-70 in the middle of the city, Missouri side.

I don't know why YA is blocking the word *****. That is the correct name of the museum and the leagues. The place honors black baseball players before and after Jackie Robinson broke the color line. Political correctness has gone to far.|||I read 3 or 4. My favorite is "The Boys of the Summer of 48".

One summer I even read the complete 1997 baseball rulebook. Pretty nerdish, however, while watching the games with my Dad and others they were amazed that I would know the ruling of a particular play and the reason behind it.

I also liked "The Bronx Zoo%26gt; and "Baseball Stories" which is a compilation of short stories form noted authors and baseball columnists.|||I buy all the periodicals, and since I was 13 in 1982, I have waited for early February, which is when they come out. There are four of the magazines I need, like Athlon Sports, Lindy's, The Sporting News, and Street and Smith's. I also picked up a new one this year, "Scout", which reviews each of the team's 30 top prospects. I also pick up Baseball America's Prospect Handbook.

I usually only completely read 1-2 baseball books a year, but have many of them that I've accumulated over the years, that I pick up and read parts of. For example, Ken Burns' "Baseball", which is a companion of the PBS series. If you want to learn about the history of the game, that's the one to get. I got it 10 years ago, and still flip through it frequently.

Out of curiousity, which version of "The Sporting News" won't be published? I picked up the annual, the New York version had Chien Ming Wang on the cover.|||About 3. I am always reading magazines but like you said the "Fantasy previews" kind of bore me and they are written so far ahead that you will never be able to use them as a real guide.|||I think I have read 3 books based on baseball in the last 2 years. Outside of that it is mostly just periodicals, fantasy reports, etc. that come out at the beginning of the season.|||I couldn't give you an exact number, but I'm a pretty avid reader. I'd say I read around 15 baseball books a year.

I just got finished re-reading "Faithful" by Stephen King and Stewart O'Nan about the 2004 Red Sox season, and now, I'm reading "Wrigley Field: The Unauthorized Biography" by Stuart Shea.

I'll read about any team and their history. I've read some books about A-Rod and (one or two) about Barry Bonds and lord knows, I'm not particularly fond of either of them! I just enjoy getting a different perspective and learning something new.|||Great question!

I don't have a set number per year, but I do love to read about the game. Fans of the movie "Field of Dreams" should really pick up one of the many books written by W.P. Kinsella (it's based on one of his stories). He has several collections of short stories about baseball that are an absolute joy to read.

Other than Kinsella, I've also enjoyed reading a series of baseball mysteries by Troy Soos, set in the 1910's and 20's, with lots of references to actual players from that era.

Ty Cobb's autobiography was fascinating as well, and of course plenty of more current non-fiction stuff like the Sporting News annual yearbook, etc.

How many baseball cuts per cow?

As far as steaks are concerned, How many baseball cuts per cow?|||http://www.mealsforyou.com/cgi-bin/custo鈥?/a>

I don't know what is baseball cut, but I guess it depends on the cow size?????

Why can a baseball take so many hits without ripping apart?

The force applied by a baseball bat is quite powerful, and baseballs last a long time, including games and practice. Just wondering about the physics of a baseball that makes it last through so many hits, bounces, skips, etc.

In terms of the materials and assemblage of the baseball, please.|||A standard baseball has a cork or rubber core to it; it's roughly the size of a quarter. Around the core are layers of yarn and twine, sometimes wool. Two peanut-shaped cowhide leather covers are then stitched together with 108 stitches of waxed red cotton thread; rolled stitching is flatter and creates less air-resistance. Baseballs usually weigh no less than five ounces and are no less than nine inches in diameter.|||I think it has something to do with the mud the use to make it. But yea dont tell Roy Hobbs that, heil tear it apart with wonder boy.|||In major league baseball, they replace the ball every hit, because the ball does NOT maintain itself after a hit.

The balls you play with in the practice field or in child games are not up to "regulation" standards, they just hold together with glue, rubber, plastic, and of course the cloth and thread on the outside.|||They really don't last that long. They replace balls an average of like 25 balls per game.|||there are to many variables for this question...there are some factors that make the baseball more vulnerable to a "smacking" but overall there is no way to have an exact number of hits a baseball can take before it brakes apart...

I, too, love baseball. I am not sure how to incorporate a real baseball into a vase with flowers. Obviously, the only way you could do this would be to have silk flowers. The baseball would get all soggy if you were to stuff it into a vase and then fill with water.

Have you thought, perhaps, of adding a different element other than baseballs? What about little miniature wooden bats criss-crossed in the center of the table with the daisy "heads" on top of them.

You might get some tiny baseballs (from keychains or wherever) and glue each of them onto the end of a floral stick. They could be randomly placed in the arrangement with the daises.

Or have a white overlay with baseball stitching in a random pattern on the overlay. Here are directions on how to make a baseball stitch. http://www.blisstree.com/articles/stitch鈥?/a>

If you want a bit more elegant, and will have other baseball items around the room, what about a white tablecloth and napkins, and have some red ribbon weaving randomly around the table? Even though it wouldn't be a baseball, everyone would realize it was beause of the colors of the baseball.

Baseball tryouts are in march, and I want to be ready but there is already snow on the ground and will probably be until then. I really need a good way to play baseball somehow during the winter, because the team's really gonna need me, its freshman ball so if that helps. What type of baseball glove should I buy my 9 year son and my 5 year old daugther?

My 9 year son and 5 year old daugther are going to be playing baseball for the first time. What kind of glove should I buy them, I saw the t-ball gloves at target for my daugther are those any good? For my son, I am lost any suggestions?|||I really love Wilson. Wilson is really easy to break in and it is comfortable on the hand and it has lasted me five years, so i am fairly certain your son or daughter couldn't do any damage to it. Wilson is also fairly inexpensive if you buy their smaller gloves. As for a cheap T-ball glove at target, it depends on how long it will be used. If it will just be used for T-ball and then she decides not to play anymore then it would be perfect. But if she is serious about playing you might want to get her a nicer one, seeing as those cheap ones do not break in at all.|||Get Rawlings, Mizuno, or Wilson. The ones at Target aren't that good and are bad quality. Taek them to your local sporting goods store and look around and find a good glove and at a resonable price. Why does a baseball pitcher start on a mound higher than the batters box?

Fast pitch softball pitchers start on a level plane from the batter. Why does a baseball pitcher have to be higher?|||A higher mound gives the pitcher an advantage. After the 60s era of the pitcher they actually lowered the mound to reduce the edge pitchers had. In the late 90s there was serious consideration to raising the mound some more.

What the higher mound does is it adds a slight amount of velocity as you can use the mound to add momentum to your throw. It also adds a sharper angle to your pitches as well as giving you more room for specialty pitches.

The reason you don't see it in softball is that softball is meant to be a game of hitting. Since the pitcher is throwing underhand they gain nothing in velocity from a raised mound. Softballs are easier to hit but harder to hit farther. So again the edge for the pitcher is unecessary. Having a level mound also reduces risk of injury. So for most people who play softball this is a concern.|||Better aim for the batter's head.|||I have wondered about this one too. I have daughters in softball and a son in baseball and couldn't figure out why they couldn't use the same fields. Apparently, because of the way the ball is pitched for baseball (pitcher lunges forward and throws the ball overhand), the mound adds speed to the pitch. In softball the pitch is underhand (fast and slow pitch). A downhill slope would be awkward and in no way would help speed or aim.|||well think about it this way, if you are pitchingfrom a high point to a down point that means that you are throwing down hill and there fore the ball goes faster. in most sports 3 of 10 sucks but if you hit 3of 10 balls in baseball you have a .300 batting average and if you hit that in the majors you are in the hall of fame for sure.

What do you hate more current baseball stats or baseball history?

I have noticed in the baseball section the more facts you quote, be it baseball history from sites like baseball almanac or baseball reference or stats or box score results from Yahoo Sports, the more thumbs downs I will receive for an answer. So what do you hate more current stats or baseball history?|||I enjoy almost all aspects of the great game.

I'll never understand the fascination with walk-up songs, though.|||In my opinion there are too many detailed statistics. Hate it when they quote how many times a guy has struck out against ..xxx team with a 2-2 count, in the 6th inning on a cloudy day. They

keep minutia that is totally irrelevant to anything other than keeping a commentator busy. History

I don't mind because it is true color to the game. Who cares if a guy is hitting .302 with runners in scoring position on a dirt infield with a 2-1 count on Friday's and Saturday's in August.|||Baseball history I hate|||The great thing about baseball history is that the stats go back over 100 years. Pretty amazing..... so when a player like Jeter became only the 25th (or whatever it was) player to get 3000 hits, that tells you something .......|||I HATE BASEBALL STATS!!!! the stats are stupid and just depends on what your home field is. For example a rod or jeter (who cares which one) only hit so much home runs because the YANKEES field FAVORS LEFT HANDED BATTERS.

LiKe ThIs If YoU hAtE tHe YaNkEeS!!!!!!!|||I love baseball history and pay attention to statistics as well so if i had to chose between them i would say stats.. just because they change by the day and can get very annoying. But history is imprinted and does not change

What do baseball players say to each other?

I've notices this while watching baseball games on television. When the batter gets a hit and goes to first base, before the pitcher faces the next batter the baserunner and first baseman will talk to each other. What do they say?|||They often talk about how they got on base. They'll say "nice hit" or "good eye man" stuff like that, because they're all baseball players and they can relate. Some know eachother and will ask about how their family is doing and stuff like that. Some guys talk trash playfully, some guys just talk about random stuff trying to get into your head (Kevin Millar). The more they talk to the runners, the less focused they are on the actual game, so they can be picked off or make a stupid decision.|||a lot of times they are just saying hi, and or talking about the pitcher.....|||They bullshit.|||usually they just chat about stuff, cause alot of times they maybe used to be teammates and buddy's and talk to 1 another when they get a chance to, and just joke around, just like NBA players always do that b4 a player shoots his free throws from the line, and shake hands and bump chests b4 games start, and same in baseball, since the game is so slow at times, they just chat while a coach or catcher visits mound, and just laugh and joke around|||Say what's up and / or do some fun bantering of which team is going to win. It's not usually anything bad, if they don't like each other they just don't talk. Many times they are laughing about the hit.|||talk about strategy|||They are talking about what club they are going to hit after the game and how drunk they are going to get.

What is the difference between baseball and softball?

I've gone to my younger sister's softball games and my little cousin's baseball games. The only difference I could see was the ball for softball is bigger and the baseball team was all male, whilst the softball was all-female.

There really isn't a visible difference to me, though. Can someone help me out, here?|||Softball can be played by male and female.

Baseball can only be played by males.

Softballs and baseballs are both as hard as the other but softballs are bigger.

There are 2 sizes of softballs.

Only one size of baseballs.

Softball is underhand.

Baseball is overhand.

The bats for little league baseball are aluminum and have a more slender bottom and about 3/4 the way up the bat it gets bigger. Thats the part the batter should hit it. Although, wooden bats are basically a cross between softball and aluminum baseball bats. Wooden bats are used in the majors.

Softball only uses aluminum. The bottom is slender, but 1/3 of the way up the bat it starts getting bigger. You should hit the ball in the middle of the bat.

In both games thats called 'the sweet spot.'|||at a young age, the gender and the size of the ball is the only major difference. In baseball, though, runners can take leadoffs and steal on the pitcher. The bases are also 90 feet instead of 60-70, and the pitcher's mound is 60'6" instead of 43'. The pitchers throw overhand instead of underhand, and thus softball pitchers can pitch more without getting tired. In higher levels of softball, pitching tends to be more dominant than higher level baseball pitching.|||Pitching technique is different. In baseball pitching is overhand, in softball pitching is underhand. In baseball you can lead off before the ball is pitched, but in softball you are out if you take a lead before the ball is pitched. Baseball field dimensions are larger than softball field dimensions. In baseball there is a mound of dirt on which the pitcher stands, and in softball it is flat. There is probably a lot more, but that is what comes to mind. The barrel of baseball bats are usually larger in circumference than softball bats|||Softball is an underhand windmill pitch. Baseball is overhand. Softball has a 12 inch ball, and baseball is smaller. Softball usually has a dirt infield. Baseball has a grass infield. Softball pitching mound is 40 feet away from home plate. In baseball, it's 60 feet. Also, in softball the bases are closer together (60 ft) than in baseball (90 ft). In softball, the runner has to wait for pitcher to release the ball to lead. Hope it helps :)|||softballs are bigger obviously %26amp;%26amp; baseballs are smaller

Softball fields are smaller %26amp;%26amp; baseball fields are larger even though it is a known fact that baseballs go a further distance than softballs

The infield for softball is ONLY dirt. Baseball infields have grass and some dirt.

Softball pitchers pitch windmill style %26amp;%26amp; baseball pitches overhand.

The barrel on softball bats are one size where baseball bats are smaller at the bottom then slighty become larger at the end.

This was a simple explanation without getting aaalll technical.

hope it helped. ;]|||Softball has slightly different rules and techniques. While the bases in baseball are 90 feet apart in softball they are 60 feet apart. Softball players cannot leave the base until the ball has left the pitchers hand. And the pitching is also a slightly different technique. A softball team also generally plays with 4 outfielders also. Therefore you need at least 10 people to field a full softball team whereas you only need 9 for baseball.|||In Softball, the ball is bigger, but less dense. The pitching rubber is 43 feet away from Home Plate. The bats used in Softball are smaller. The bases are 60 feet apart from each other. You cannot take a lead before the ball is released by the pitcher. The infield consists only of dirt. The Corners play up by the pitcher. Softball consists of running slaps from the left side. The fence is 200 feet from Home Plate. Softball uses an underhand pitching technique called a 'Windmill'. A softball pitcher can start and finish a game, or even pitch a double header because the pitching technique is more of a natural motion than in Baseball.

In Baseball, the ball is smaller, more dense. The pitching mound is 60 ft and 6 inches from Home Plate. The bats are bigger than in Softball. It's 90 feet to each base. You can lead off the bag before the ball is pitched. There is grass in the infield and dirt in the infield. The fence is typically 300 feet from Home Plate. Baseball uses an overhand pitching motion. A baseball pitcher usually does not finish a game and is relieved by another pitcher, and requires rest after a game since the pitching motion is not as natural as the pitching technique in softball.|||in softball the pitcher pitches the ball underhand, the softball is larger than a baseball, a softball has a 12" diamater. also in softball the bases are closer together and it's a smaller playing feild.

in baseball the ball is pitched overhand, the ball is smaller and harder than a softball, the bases are farther apart than in softball and the feild is larger.

also some of the rules are slightly different depending on what leauge you play in.|||There are many differences, google it for specifics. Besides the obvious stuff like ball size, bat size, glove size, base distance, grass infield, etc, there are many things people dont think about. Mechanics are completely different for baseball and softball swings. Stealing bases differs greatly. There are no pick-off moves for the pitcher.

Oh, and softball is more boring and dull lol.|||Yea indeed the balls are different.

the baseball is wayyy smaller and hard as a rock!

as for the softball its huge! haha and softer but

not too soft. motherfckers hurt when you get one to the face lol

anyways umm in softball isnt it all underhand pitching throo out the game? i think so? i used to be on my schools

softball team but i got kicked off like two weeks

later because my stupid hair appoinment kept getting changed

and it effected my attendance lmao|||Baseball is typically a sport that mainly males play. While Softball is a sport played differenty for girls. In baseball, the infield is grass. In softball, the infield is all dirt. They also pitch differently. Hope I could Help1|||Your correct about the size of the balls being different. However, the distance between the bases tends to be smaller in softball and the pitchers mound is closer to home plate as well.|||"However, the distance between the bases tends to be smaller in softball and the pitchers mound is closer to home plate as well."

There is no mound in softball.

Also the balls are softer.|||I think softball is for girls, has a bigger ball, and in my opinion the softball is softer!

Do any baseball fans keep a strikeout meter visible during the game?

I've seen football games where people have a sac-o-meter. Do baseball fans keep a strikeout meter and adjust it with every strike out for the home team?! I'm considering doing this for a Professional fast pitch softball team's home games!|||Sometimes fans will make giant signs and hang them over the edge of a railing. They have a "K" of them showing how mnay strikeouts the pitcher has gotten (that is the home field pitcher's strikeouts).|||Yes, teams do this. AT%26amp;T Park does it and (I think) they call it the K meter (or strike out meter). They only count strikeouts for the home team. Kauffman Stadium, during Zack Grienke starts, they add a K to the end of his name after one of his strikeouts, so it looks like this ZACKKKKKK.

I'm sure other teams do this as well.

Edit: The Giants have an official one on the wall. So it's not fans holding signs up.|||Yes they do. And also if it is a strikeout looking they put down a backwards K.|||No. Im not that crazy obsessed with such irrelevant things to the point of having no life!

When did baseball players start wearing their pants over their socks?

Traditionally baseball players wear their socks over the bottom of their pants up to the knee. Most major league ball players wear their pants over the socks down to the shoes. I am curious as to when this started.|||I looked through World Series pictures. This didn't happen in the 60s series even once. In fact, I first found it in the 90s pictures.

How do you determine the value of baseball cards?

I recently found a box of baseball cards from the 70's in a parking lot. They don't appear to be any players that I've ever heard of. But then again, I'm not a sports fanatic at all, so I don't know if they're even worth anything. How would I determine their value?|||www.beckett.com.

You can subscribe to their database. Or as another suggested, you can buy the monthly magazine at any card shop or show.|||try looking some of them on ebay, its difficult. but usually the most effective|||well when i wana price something i go to ebay and see what the average price its going for online. but if they dont have it on ebay then go to a local hobby shop and ask them to see if they can determine what the price of it using there computer|||there are websites where you type in what card you have and they give you the price of how much it's worth|||put them up for sale....

nothing is worth more than you'll get for it when actually selling it.|||A catalog called Becketts. Has approx. worth of the cards.|||check the date and their stats in the back of the card, If its true and they are really from the seventies look at there stats person with the best stats should cost the most just like the person with the least should cost the least. But if you have someone in there named hank arron , (he broke babe ruths record back in 1974 buy hitting 715 carrer homeruns) then don't sell it hold on too it for a couple of years, then sell it if you don't get a lot of money for that card then it must be fake...|||Beckett's is definitely the best source for prices....for some of the older series of cards it will only list the star players, so if you can't find the selling price there, try ebay.

How does rotisserie scoring work in fantasy baseball?

I've played fantasy sports for a long time, but this is my first year of playing fantasy baseball with a rotisserie scoring system. Can someone shed some light on this situation becuase I'm a little confused.|||In rotisserie, you are building stats. Every league has a list of stats that are "in play" for making points. For example, there are batting averages, home runs, RBIs, stolen bases, and runs scored for hitters; pitchers have generally wins, saves, ERA, strikeouts, and WHIP average. What you are trying to do is gain points by having the most of each category compared to all the teams in your league. So, if you had the most home runs in your league, you would receive, say ten points in a ten team league. If you had the second most home runs, it would be worth nine points. Your objective is to find a way to gain the most points by trying to place well in all the scoring categories. Some teams will have better pitching, and some may have more power or speed. You want to gain the most points total. A team with a good mix is the best way to go. You will hear "5 category player" which means that player does well in all of the categories they contribute, such as A-Rod because he hits for power, average, RBIs, and steals bases and scores runs. Keep checking the overall standings to see how your team places for the scoring categories, and make adjustments from waivers, trades, or lineup to increase you total score.|||its not a head 2 head competition its just everyone against everyone at the same time. I play rotisseerie in my fantasy hockey leagu|||this is for basketball, but the same princepal applies.

For the rotisserie format, team totals are ranked from first to last in each of the statistical categories, and points are awarded in each category based on the season-to-date cumulative totals. For example, in a 10-team league, the team with the most season-to-date rebounds receives 10 points, the second-place team nine points, and so on through the last-place team with one point. In the case of a tie, the teams will split the points. (ex: Team A and Team B are tied for first place in rebounds. They would split the first- and second-place points, giving them each 9.5 points in the rebounds category

What are the prices on my Topps baseball cards?

I have complete factory sets of Topps baseball cards from these years:

1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1995.

I also have a box full of team allstar cards from '87, and a box full of about 800 cards ranging from '82 all the way up to '96.

How much should I expect to spend at my first baseball game?

Yeah yeah I know. My parents hate baseball, but my girlfriend and I are about to go to my first baseball game. I bought the tickets, but how much should I expend to drop on this memorable occasion? It's a Giants game here in the bay.|||If your girlfriend is actually into watching the game, you might not have any reason to spend money... but with women that is probably rare... if you have a women who really enjoys watching an entire baseball game, then you're a lucky guy.

Otherwise, the typical things you might end up spending money on are overpriced food, beer, and souvenirs. Most major league ballparks will have hotdog vendors and snack food vendors who are along the streets outside of the ballpark. San Fransisco is no different. Those vendors sell for about half the price of what it will cost you inside the ballpark. So if you want to save money, buy a couple hotdogs before you get into the ballpark and get your sunflower seeds, peanuts, licorice, or what have you before you get inside the ballpark.

Hotdogs are about $3-4 outside the ballpark. Peanuts and Sunflower seeds are a couple bucks and the same for licorice.

Inside the ballpark you'll be lucky to find a hotdog for $6. Beer can be anywhere from $5-8 inside the ballpark. Obviously you can't bring any liquids into the ballpark from outside.

As for souvenirs... you will find merchandise stores inside the stadium and around the outskirts. If you're buying authentic jerseys and such these things can be quite expensive with $50 being the minimum and upwards to $100 or more. There are plenty of other nic-nac things such as bobbleheads or whatever in those stores, too. Granted anything you buy, you could always find for less online...|||(I hate the giants...go to an A's game instead)

but the amount you spend at a baseball game can vary heavily...you may want to bring a lot since its your first and you may want to get souvenirs and what not. food at baseball games is very expensive|||Eat before you go to the game so you don't waste your money on expensive food. Souvenirs vary in price depending on what you want to get. When I go to a game I usually spend about fifty dollars because I drink a lot and eat a few hot dogs.

What should I do to get ready for baseball?

I want to join this new semi-pro baseball team. But I haven't play baseball since high school. My baseball skill is not that good. It's kinda rusty but I want to get back to playing baseball. What should I do ?|||Just get in shape. Run, Lift, and go to the batting Cages and work on your swing.|||Firstly what you should do is go to the gym and work do exercises. Depending how long it is until the semi-pro team is preferably at least a month of strength training should happen before you do anything. Go online and find some workout programs. Also along with this mix in running a few miles a week. If this team is very good you'll want to be in shape. After you are done with this first step hit the batting cages a few times just to get the feel of hitting again. After that work on doing all the other things if you have someone to work with have them pitch to you have them throw pop ups and many other things like that. Also work on your mechanics and try to apply them while you're practicing.

Hope this helps

When someone proves to be a good baseball player, why are they automatically accused of using steroids?

I've seen multiple questions accusing Alex Rodriguez, Albert Pujols and a few other great baseball players of using steroids.

Can someone please tell me why no one can accept that men like A-Rod and Pujols are just talented?|||Only by casual fans and others that have no idea of what they are talking about. Some people enjoy coming up with "off the wall" ideas, with no basis of fact, and somehow coming to believe it is true. Since they are not happy keeping their own flawed ideas to themselves they will come and contaminate a forum such as this. And the real sad thing is, many people will believe it as fact without ever doing any other research on their own..|||Ken Griffey Jr wasnt blamed for steriods and he even played in the "steriod era"|||Exactly, it's just ridiculous. Can't any baseball player be good WITHOUT using performance enhancing drugs?

I can't wait for Robert D to come on here and start talking about A-Rod, or "A-Roid" as he calls him.

EDIT: Jdesiel, it's not the media. It's the idiots on here that like to run their mouths.|||Because the media likes to make stories to talk about.|||Because the other teams fans starts to get jealous (not all of them) and they starting accusing players for no reason|||It is because there are so many that have been linked so people are very skeptical of anyone that is having success. The thing that people over look is that more guys that have not had success have been linked than people that have had success. People want to overlook the fact that expansion has watered down the pitching in todays game, they would rather focus on the idea that they all are on the juice. If people want to see the numbers come down then they need to support a real strike zone, the inside pitch, banning armor at the plate (which allows guys to "take one for the team" a little too easy) and make the hitters hit pitches that are not in the prime spot to drive the ball but also in the zone. The rules right now are tailored to put up huge numbers and the hitters have all the advantage at this point so their numbers will be up. You are right, Pujols, A-Rod, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Beltran are all guys that are just that gifted with talent...they do not fit the build of a roider.|||Because it's been proven that a large amount of players have used steroids in the last ten years, so that just makes everyone untrusting no matter what the players might say. Everyone suffering for alot of people's mistakes, I guess.|||Hang around with gang members, and some will assume you are in a gang. Just human nature. Nowadays you need to prove you are innocent.|||Because that's the culture we've created, first by denying any problem existed whatsoever and then by going totally in the other direction and believing that anyone who succeeds at all in baseball can only succeed because they're juiced.

For the record, I doubt very much that ARod is now or has ever been on anything. His physique doesn't match the profile at all. He's just a spectacularly gifted athlete who's worked hard. I hope he breaks all the records so that we can put to rest, once and for all, the notion that we need asterisks or some other bull to define who was juiced and who wasn't.|||Because to some of these people it's now the in thing to make conspiracy theories on everyone who's a good player now. They act as if they are there or they are injecting the needle themselves.|||I know it sucks doesn't it.

I really can't tell you why, maybe some people are just like that I guess. I can't explain some people, maybe they're just on drugs.|||I think its only ignorant people that feel that way. People that know and love the sport dont accuse everyone that is good of using steroids.|||Oh, it's just crazy. To cast aspirations on players just because they are good is downright ludacris. I have and never will I suspect the two that you named. I realize that the "Witch Hunt Mitchell Report" named what was it 87 players. First off, it really bugs me that congress has involved itself with tax player money for this. Certainly, we are big fans Greta, two of the biggest, but there are many out there who care less. Congress should be called to task on that with a gazillion dollar deficit already, why waste more taxpayer money? Secondly, getting back to Congress, where in the wide wide world of sports does the US Government feel it needs to get involved with something that has well nothing to do with government? ( I know I am going off on a tangent from your question, but indirectly, if this report hadn't have come out, everyone and their uncle wouldn.t be suspected) getting back to what I was saying, where, and please of someone out there can point me in the right direction if I am wrong, does the US Constitution anywhere state it it needs to involve itself in such matters?

I always thought the Congress of the U.S. federal government concerned itself this:

to levy and collect taxes in order to pay debts,

provide for common defense and general welfare of the U.S.; to borrow money on the credit of the U.S.;

to regulate commerce with other nations and between the states;

to establish a uniform rule of naturalization;

to coin money and regulate its value;

provide for punishment for counterfeiting;

establish post offices and roads,

promote progress of science,

create courts inferior to the Supreme Court,

define and punish piracies and felonies, declare war,

raise and support armies,

provide and maintain a navy,

make rules for the regulation of land and naval forces, provide for, arm, and discipline the militia,

exercise exclusive legislation in Washington D.C, and

make laws necessary and proper to execute the powers of Congress.

Where then does baseball fit into this? Next thing you know the Congress s going to concern themselves with the affairs of Brittany Spears.... it is just nuts!!!!!!|||Greta i agree but Sadly were in the "Steroid Era" every player if there good sadly will be accused why cant people accept that there is players who are talented|||the only people asking those questions are simply morons who dont like the yankees or the cardinals or are just trying to be jerks, obviously neither arod or pujols took steroids, if youre going to accuse someon of that, there has to be a real reason to believe it, like their head gets huge all of a sudden, or they put up pathetic numbers in minnesota and suddenly swell when they go to boston|||That is a very good question, for odd reason, if a baseball player that comes around and proves to be a very good baseball player, then somebody thinks that they have taken steriods. But what prove do they have they took steriods? What ever happened to the old saying that you are innocent until your are proven guilty. I don't know what happened to it, but it seems like that it is going, and that people just automaccly accuse somebody of something, whether or not that they have proof to back it up. And when and why this all started to happen, that is another good question, and maybe a very good answer to discover at a later date. But for now let's try to find out why this must be the case, why do people have to think that very good ballplayers are the ones that take steriods. And maybe there can be a very good lesson to be learned from this.|||they cant handle the fact that players actually can have talent. they just think that there all fakers. and its pathetic.

Is baseball beginning to become as predictable as basketball?

Its almost June and looking at the standings, the Pirates, Astros, Orioles, Diamondbacks and especially the Cubs are all out of playoff contention. Does anybody seriously think that these teams can actually make a run to the playoffs? Especially the Worst team in baseball the Chicago Cubs. Face it, its going to be the same 4 teams in the playoffs again in the American League and the Same usual teams in the national league. Just like basketball its always the Lakers, Celtics, Pistons or Spurs. These teams are usually the ones that are bad in the years. The Cubs could be back and worth. You never know, but in order for that to happen, the teams have to start winning. And this year, there are some pretty tough teams out there like the Tampa Bay Rays. It all depends how teams do. In basketball, the Lakers have to have about one of the best head coaches in the league. But you are forgetting that the Detriot Pistons sucked this year, and they didn't make the playoffs. And even teams that are favored to win games, they don't always win games through. Things can change yet, one of the teams that are winning could end up choking, and one of the teams losing now, could turn it around.|||Idk what your thinking. The NL East is as tight as a nun 20 years after her vowes.

The AL east isn't predictable. The Sox are in third the Yankees are in second and the Dark horse, Rays are in first with a 3 game lead.

What is the highest batting average in baseball in the past 10 years?

What is the highest batting average in baseball in the past 10 years? I mean the highest batting average in a season, not career.|||Derrick is correct, but Todd Helton also hit .372 in the 2000 season.|||The highest single season batting average since 2000 is .372, achieved by both Ichiro Suzuki in 2004 and Nomar Garciaparra in 2000

How can I become more confident in baseball?

I have some trouble performing in game situations in baseball, specifically hitting. I can hit well when just playing for fun, or in bp when i just swing at everything, but when I get up to the plate in a game, there seems to be something holding me back from swinging. I know if i can overcome this "barrier", I will get my hits since i have a level swing. Does anyone else suffer from this, and what can I do to gain some confidence at the plate?|||Take your time in the on deck circle very seriously. Swing when the pitch is coming to get the timing right. Also try closing your eyes, swinging, and imagine the ball to go somewhere in a gap or something. NOT a homerun. Once you get that hit your confidence will grow by itself. For the time being just keep telling yourself that you can do it and that you are the best player out there.|||I used to always feel pressured and nervous when i got up at back when i was younger. I never ever had a problem batting, but i still felt uncomfortable. One day i sat there watching the pitcher warming up, and thought what is the worst that can happen? i can strike out or groun out or pop out. Who cares it is all part of the game. It doesnt matter enjoy the game and who cares what people think. Do your best and have fun, have confidence and know that you can do it. "dont ever let the fear of striking out hold you back" -Babe Ruth

Best Answer?|||It starts in practice. Work on developing a good eye in practice and swing like you would in a game.

When I get in the box, I usually say "focus" to myself. Then you gotta remember to sit back on the ball and just go with the pitch. If you dont have a gameplan going up to bat, you'll be 0-2 real quick.|||Spend a bunch of time in the cage and hitting off tees. Learn where the strike zone is. Let the pitches come to you.|||This happened to me before. I would never swing the bat and I had all this potential to be great and help my team but I would never swing. So one year I just decided to swing. Remember you can't hit if you don't swing. I was just thinking, I am going to swing this year, that year I led the team in batting average and hits.

But the only way to over come this fear is just to work on your eye and learn the strike zone. Then pick your pitch and swing away.|||The best thing to do is just relax and have fun just think like you are playing with your friends. Because ththat'swhen you are doing your best. All the practice in the world won't do good if you can't just ignore everything else going on and just relax. Everything will come together eventually.

It's like a pitcher focusing on just throwing to the catcher and ignoring the batter. Everything is easier without the pressure but thats why you just have to go out and have fun. If you start getting in a slump or swing at a bad pitch don't get frustrated that just makes things worse.|||It sounds like you do not need to swing at everything in batting practice... Pick and choose the pitches you hit in batting practice is if you were in a game situation... That should give you the mind set as if you were in the game. Also during BP dont just soft toss all the time... have your best pitcher throw to you, have him change speeds and change pitches. Hitting is not just a physical part of the game its alot to do with the mental aspect. If you go up to the plate nervous and doubting your not going to get hits. Go up to the plate with confidence and you'll do fine... you'll get that confidence through a few good sessions in BP. Also suggest to your coach some live batting practice, but remember don't go up to the plate with the mindset that it is just practice think of it as a tryout for a major league team you dont want to swing at bad pitches you want to choose the right pitch. Also when I coached last summer I told my players its not about the hits or homeruns its about runners in scoring position. I would rather have a disciplined batter at the plate and get walked and have him in a scoring position. Don't sweat it it'll come just be patient at the plate and keep working on keeping your eye on the ball. My coach used to tell me he would tie fishing line to my head and to my gentials so everytime i pulled my head... well you get the point. Lots of repetitions in practice will give you muscle memory and then it will be second nature to you. But as all coaches say practice as you would do in a game!

What size baseball glove should I buy for my son who is about to turn 3?

My son will turn 3 at the end of May. I'd like to buy him his first leather baseball glove but am not sure what size I should buy. Any advice?|||Just look in the teeball section and see which one fits him the best.|||For a kid that young, I'd just get one of the generic gloves (usually sold with a cheesy bat and ball) for young kids. It's probably going to be vinyl and may not work well, but then again for a kid that small, it really won't make that much difference.

I honestly love baseball, and have played for a very long time, but didn't get my first real glove until I was seven. At your son's age it'd be better to play gentle catch with him using bare hands and a tennis ball or something similar. The skills learned that way will make a world of difference when he's old enough to actually use a glove.

When I used to coach little league, I used to make the kids warm up without gloves; you just can't beat the eye-hand coordination that teaches.|||I would buy him the smallest USED glove you can find. since most 3-yeard olds hands do not have the hand strength to 'break-in' a new glove, a used gloved would enable the future star to get the feeling of opening and closing the glove.|||something he can grow in to|||dude your suns 3 you will have to stand 3 inches to catch the ball wait until hes five besides thowing over hand isnt a natual motion so it could end up recking his arm|||start him witlh wifel ball set of bat ,ball and glove, from toysr us or k bees, once he hits that plastic ball a mile he will never want to wear his glove, just watch out when pitching

When did baseball players and managers start arguing calls with umpires?

You know how in baseball a player might think hes safe or out or the ball was too high, low, outside, inside and in the dirt and was still called a strike? How long have they been arguing calls with umpires? When did this start?|||Players and managers have most likely been arguing calls with umpires since the very beginning.|||About as long as there has been baseball. I know of no fights between players and umpires. There might have been years and years ago, I mean pre 1940's. In my day managers could come out on the field and argue balls and strikes, not so now.|||1871.

How can I buy wholesale baseball card boxes?

I would like to purchase, in bulk, baseball card hobby boxes to sell the individual card packages. I want to be able to buy many hobby boxes at a time, preferably direct from the producer. How do people do this, for baseball cards or anything?|||Hi,

There are only a few card makers these days but the criteria required so the general public don't buy wholesale is that you provide legal paperwork for your business %26amp; want you to have a physical storefront not just an online store. I tried it with Topps years ago but i didn't have a store yet %26amp; i couldn't buy direct.

What are activities I can do on a baseball field other than baseball?

Im trying to plan a field day and it would be impractical to play baseball or softball. Since we have 2 baseball fields that take up a lot of land are there any other activities that we could do?|||Kickball is a very fun game for kids. Just kick the ball and well baseball rules from there on.... but i remember loving it as a kid.|||You could play capture the flag, football in the outfield, soccer in the outfield, if you are planning field day for little kids maybe sharks and minnows.

What makes a major league baseball player?

While watching the league playoffs, I wondered where did these guys come from? They are from different countries, ethnic groups, religions and have a wide variety of ages and physiques.

Have you read a book, or studied baseball players and baseball for a long time? Did you learn what brings one young boy up to the major leagues, while another never leaves the sand lot or little league?|||IMHO here is my list. I think almost every player is missing one or two of these, but you won't find a major leaguer with less than 80% of these attributes:

!. Strong ego- a devine belief in yourself that will persevere through any challenge, hardship, poor performance or adversity. Not to be confused with arrogant.

2a. A strong psyche- ability to think without being clouded by negative energy.

2b. Clutch- not affected negatively by external pressures.

3a. Knowledge of the game- how the pitcher will set him up, understanding of strategies, how to move runners/ where to hit the ball, opponents tendencies, etc.

3b. Team player- using knowledge of the game to his own and team's benefit

4. Develops skills and moves to next levels of development quickly

5. Retainment of skills learned/ muscle memory- through repetition and practice

6. Desire to excel through refinement of skills/ practice

7. Impeccable fast-twitch muscle skills- superior reactions/ quick feet, hands, trunk

8 Footspeed- slow-twitch excellence

9. Incredibly accurate vision

10. Luck- The help of he right person and situation to rise from level to level from t-ball to the Hall of Fame

Note- size is NOT on this list. I played at 6'5, 230, and I really think it's not essential. Also, I don't think every major leaguer has all these qualities, But if I had to say which ones are most pre-eminant, I'd say

1.) fast-twitch muscle speed

2.) vision

3.) footspeed

4.) #4)-#6

5.) #1-#3b

6.) luck

Thanks.|||A major league baseball player is required to have many talents and qualities.

You need to know the sport;Be smart with the sport.

Not buckle under pressure; Its important that most of them don't suck under pressure, because there are A LOT of pressure situations in Baseball.

Now of course you need talent in baseball.

Pitchers

-Excellent control with the ball; Need to be able to put the ball where you want in the strike zone.

-Trickery; Hiding the ball, throwing curveballs, making the batter THINK more and more to make HIM buckle under the pressure.

Also needs to be able not to over throw the ball.

-Arm Power; Arm needs to be strong; Pitcher needs to be able to throw fast, throw hard.

Batting:

Strength; Player needs to be strong, needs to be able to hit the ball hard and fast; needs to generate fast bat speed.

Mechanics; Needs to be able to have a smooth swing.

Fielding:

Fantastic Hand-eye coordination

PS-There is no requirement to where you are born that restricts you to play in the Major Leagues.

Anybody Can play!

A baseball player needs to have all of the above to play the game!|||simple talent. some dont have as much as others , but they have enoughto get the job done and thats all that matters.|||lots of things are needed to become a ballplayer in the mlb. first, be able to hit a 90+ mph fastball. throwing 90+ doesnt hurt either. mlb scouts fall in love with the radar guns. trust me on that one. i watched a pro tryout and boy were they getting all gossipy with eachother and their guns. you have an even better chance if you pitch or are a catcher and have a hand cannon for an arm.|||As a high school baller, I think I can answer it fairly well.

The first thing is definately a strong work ethic, if you want to be any good. Ichiro is a perfect example. As a kid threw 50 pitches, took 50 ground balls, 50 fly balls, 200 live swings, and 300 pitches from a machine. It is also the reason most pitchers can't hit. They simply don't practice it. You lose what you learned very quickly in baseball.

The second I think is a little more tricky as I think there is a very fine line. Talent comes in handy, yet sometimes the more talent you have, the less of a work ethic you have.

Finally, it is nearly impossible to learn how to hit after the age of seven, I think. The hand eye coordination for hitting is simply too complicated.|||The same thing that makes a succesfull artist, or business person or cook. Athletics are simply born with talents just as other people have their own different talents. Almost all athletics while growing up play all the sports and dominate in them all the specific sport they play is usually narrowed down between high school and college depending on offer's, opportunities, and own preference.

Any ideas for doing a baseball game dedication?

My cousin was killed in a car accident in 1993 and in 2001 a baseball diamond was dedicated to him through a local park district. We as a family are going to do a baseball game in memory of him in a few weeks and I would like to put a large "memory box" together. I am planning on taking lots of pictures and i want to record the family playing the game. Also, we are having t-shirts made up. Any other ideas? Other things we could do, or make? Ideas for a memory box that i could make or buy? Any ideas are great!

Thanks all!|||first of Sorry for your loss.

What was baseball and its rules like during the pre modern era?

Whenever i ask a question about baseball , people always separate the modern era and the pre modern era. Why? What are the pros and cons to the pre modern era and the rules of the game at the time?

Do you think the games rules are better now or before? and why?|||Before 1900 the rules changed quite a bit. Here are just a few of the rules that were in place at one time.

The pitching mound was closer.

At various times it took 5, 6, and 7 balls for a walk.

The batter could request where he wanted the pitch.

You could throw the ball at a runner to get him out.

If a fielder caught the ball on a bounce the batter was out.|||I think it was better in the pre-modern ERA. Back then, the strike zone was a lot bigger (shoulders to shins) so the game went along quicker, and didn't take 4 hours to play like today's game

Today, it's become so much more about the pitcher. If you have a good starting pitcher, you'll likely win the game. In my opinion, it's gone from becoming a team sport to an individual sport|||Before Babe Ruth came along, and they introduced the"live" ball, baseball fans would say things like, he's our best player, last season he almost hit a homerun.|||it wasn't as complicated as it was today

How come baseball pitchers don't start every game?

How come baseball pitchers don't start every game? If its because they need to rest, than they are really lazy and week.|||they need rest......DUH|||you try throwing 100 pitches with full effort and tell me how you feel the next day|||It's surprising nobody has put the entire staff on a 30-pitch-a -day limit.|||starting pitchers use all their energy just for one pitch and their pitch count can go to 100 and they feel dead the next day.|||you are an idiot if they are so lazy and weak then i assume you will go out and throw 100 pitches at 90 mph and do the same thing the next day.|||Are lazy and weak? Let me see you throw around 90 pitches at the range around 80-100 mph.

PS- How is it possible for someone to be playing in the MLB and be weak at the same time? Great! I learned something new today.

So, you are the smartest in this section, why do we care? Never even seen your display nick and yet you're the smartest? That's cool.|||CONGRATULATIONS!! You are in the running for dumbest question ever, I hope you win!!

its because they go out and give it their all and pitch between 90 and 130 pitches and you call them lazy.

pitchers pitched everyday in the 20s and 30s because they didn't have the technology to count pitches and the pitchers didn't care as much about their arms|||For the same reason that bodybuilders don't work the same bodyparts on consecutive days. The body grows and recovers between exercise sessions, or in this case, between starts. Plus, the human body was not made to throw overhand, so there are a lot of small, supporting muscles in the shoulder that must have time to recover.

This is one of the stupidest questions on here in a long time, but it has a lot of competition for the title of "Stupidest question of all time". And one more thing- "week" describes a period of time equal to 7 days. "Weak" is the word you were looking for here, which describes a lack of strength.|||Because it would absolutely kill their arm.|||Cause the job he has to do is so demanding, that, the people who run baseball know from experience how many days off a person needs for the work they do. :)

What is the significance of the first few weeks of baseball season?

I'm really amused hearing all these people making assumptions about the rest of the season based on barely a week of play. "OMG the Red Sox are 2-5 the sky is falling," "OMG Wang has a 28 ERA send him to AA," etc...

Am I the only individual who recognizes that besides injuries, NOTHING that goes on in the first few weeks of baseball season is relevant to the rest of the season?

At the end of April last year the D'Backs were one of the best teams in baseball... How did that turn out?|||Yeah, teams get off to a bad start and everyone thinks they're done for the season.

The first few weeks aren't an indication of how well a team is going to do, but in the long run, the games count for a lot.

The first few weeks aren't to be taken TOO seriously, but the problem is that some people aren't taking them seriously enough. When a team is one game out of the playoff race, is anyone going to think back to that game they blew in early April? Probably not, but that game suddenly counts for a lot. This is how division championships are lost.|||I agree with you the First Month is important , but not as much .

i Start to realize how my team is doing the Yankees In the All Star break to me August is the Most important month in the Baseball season, i wait until then to see how the shape of the Yankees is|||Pennant races are won and lost in August and September.

But, nowadays, teams play as many as 28 games in April. If you have a crappy April and lose ground in your division, you may not be able to make that up later. So, April baseball is more important than it was, say, 25 years ago.|||you cant judge a team on how they do early in the season.it means nothing that a team is 3 and 9 or 6 and 15. a team can turn it around in a hurry. a win streak of 7 in a row could happen, baseball is a funny game.the braves are doing great now,but where will they be in august? no won knows that answer. the season needs to be played out by each team. i guess thats it.|||the first week does not matter at all

that's why i don't like to watch espn as much now because they make things bigger than they are supposed to be is just so ridiculous

every team has bad weeks if the red sox had gone 2-5 on July it would of not been a problem|||It really mean nothing at this point what happens It is not like in football if your team is 2-5 you may be in trouble but in baseball you can make that up in 3 days possibly. I mean I will not make predictions on who will win anything before the all-star break.|||In league play, every game is just as important. We have seen plenty of teams win the division by one game, but that wouldn't have happened had the team lost one more game, whether it is in April or September. Likewise, the team that finished a game behind could have tied for the division championship by winning one more game in April or September.

Sure, baseball has many more games on the schedule than other sports. Consequently, teams that make the playoffs will lose more total games than an NBA or NFL team, some coming in April and some coming later in the season. There are certainly exceptions to the rule - teams that struggled early but finished strong enough to win the division. Conversely there are teams that struggled down the stretch, but also won the division.

There are many other variables that come into play as the season progresses - injuries, pressure, etc. - but ask any player and I'm sure they will tell you they would rather have a winning record in April than a losing one.

It seems like you are just waiting to find out who will be in the races to start watching, even though a win now is just as important as a win will be then.

Where can I sell baseball cards for mucho dinero?

I've got a load of old baseball cards in collectible condition and I haven't found a really reliable way of selling them. A lot of them are definitely collector's items to some people and I don't want to go selling those for like 10 bucks at a pawn shop. Remember in Blast From the Past? Remember how the main character sold a bunch of old baseball cards and got loads of money for them. Well anyway I want to sell some of mine and I'd appreciate any help on this topic.|||Bring them to a Sports Card show and show them to several dealers. You should go with a price you would accept in mind, if all the dealers give you a figure way under what you think you should be getting, then you're probably way off on their actual value. Sports cards prior to 1980 are "old", anything newer is not. Do your research, buy a guide, read it, learn how to grade and put a value on your cards - then hit the shows or local stores.|||I would go to checkoutmycards.com. How do you get ready for a baseball tryout?

I have a baseball tryout in a month, and I want to be physically/mentally ready. I really want to make this team. Any advice?|||Defense first?? In baseball?? I don't think so. I have never seen a league where they have a "Designated Fielder" rather than a Designated Hitter. Work on your hitting man. GOOD teams will look at your offense and worry about your defense later. There will come a time when GOOD teams will need pinch hitters in situations. GOOD coaches will know this, and are more likely to take a good offensive player that is shaky in the field over a good fielder that can't hit. Also, hustle everywhere. Run on the field, run off of the field. This is a simple thing, and very easy to do. If you have time, work on your defense, but I must stress that this will be the least important part of your game in a tryout. In the event that you are practicing with the kids that are already on the team, find the Captain(s) and do whatever they tell you to do. If any player is going to have input on new guys it is going to be the Captain. Make friends with him. In summary, you have to try to impress in a tryout. Hit the ball as far and as hard as you can, and throw the ball as far and as hard as you can. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT hit a cut-off man if you are an outfielder. It is better to throw the ball out of the park than to hit a cut-off man during a tryout. You want to show them how hard and far you can throw, not how accurate. Accuracy will come later. Again, don't worry about your fielding lol. Very unimportant.

Good hitters only get a hit 30% of the time because of good pitching not good defense. I have no idea where the myth originates that a good defensive player will be a good hitter. That's absolutely fallacious, and it has no logic behind it whatsoever. Anyone who knows anything about baseball knows that you can hide bad defensive players ESPECIALLY if they are good hitters. It is a little more difficult to hide a bad hitter in the lineup because he is going to bat at least 4 times during a game, and possibly once or more in an RBI situation. A bad defender may go an entire week without even having a ball hit to him. Naturally there are positions where defense is important such as shortstop and second base. These guys do not have to be as good at offense as the other position players, because they are generally in there for defense. Work on your hitting! I guarantee if you go out and hit 5 or 6 balls out of the park during a batting practice round but muffed your defense, that a good coach would be more likely to keep you than if you made 5 or 6 diving catches in the outfield and could not hit the ball out of the infield.|||Im a assistant baseball coach for a high school, when i look at something, I want defense first, offense later, and it usually works. I look at your arm strength, how good you are at grounders, fly balls..etc. Go to the park work on these things. Coaches figure is you can throw, you can hit. So focus on your defense. Mentally, just take a deep breath and have confidence in yourself, of course you are going to be nervous, you can;t do anything about that, just relax, focus and let your game speak for it's self. But WORK ON YOUR DEFENSE! GOOD coaches know that when looking at your DEFENSE, you can know how good you are at hitting they figure that you are a good all around player. THIS I DO KNOW! FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND RECREATIONAL TEAMS, DEFENSE IS IMPORTANT. Why do you think good players only hit the ball 30 percent of the time, because of good defense.|||Stretch every day and make sure to eat well so u will have strength then just throw the ball against a wall or play catch after have some one toss you balls to hit to get warmed up after that make them throw it hard to get you comfortable.
