My 9 year son and 5 year old daugther are going to be playing baseball for the first time. What kind of glove should I buy them, I saw the t-ball gloves at target for my daugther are those any good? For my son, I am lost any suggestions?|||I really love Wilson. Wilson is really easy to break in and it is comfortable on the hand and it has lasted me five years, so i am fairly certain your son or daughter couldn't do any damage to it. Wilson is also fairly inexpensive if you buy their smaller gloves. As for a cheap T-ball glove at target, it depends on how long it will be used. If it will just be used for T-ball and then she decides not to play anymore then it would be perfect. But if she is serious about playing you might want to get her a nicer one, seeing as those cheap ones do not break in at all.|||Get Rawlings, Mizuno, or Wilson. The ones at Target aren't that good and are bad quality. Taek them to your local sporting goods store and look around and find a good glove and at a resonable price. Make sure it fits and to break it in quickly by throwing and catching with it, putting a ball inside it and wrapping a rubber band around it, or buying a special oil that some sports stores sell.|||Rawlings. Why does a baseball pitcher start on a mound higher than the batters box?
Fast pitch softball pitchers start on a level plane from the batter. Why does a baseball pitcher have to be higher?|||A higher mound gives the pitcher an advantage. After the 60s era of the pitcher they actually lowered the mound to reduce the edge pitchers had. In the late 90s there was serious consideration to raising the mound some more.
What the higher mound does is it adds a slight amount of velocity as you can use the mound to add momentum to your throw. It also adds a sharper angle to your pitches as well as giving you more room for specialty pitches.
The reason you don't see it in softball is that softball is meant to be a game of hitting. Since the pitcher is throwing underhand they gain nothing in velocity from a raised mound. Softballs are easier to hit but harder to hit farther. So again the edge for the pitcher is unecessary. Having a level mound also reduces risk of injury. What do baseball players say to each other?
I've notices this while watching baseball games on television. When the batter gets a hit and goes to first base, before the pitcher faces the next batter the baserunner and first baseman will talk to each other. What do they say?|||They often talk about how they got on base. They'll say "nice hit" or "good eye man" stuff like that, because they're all baseball players and they can relate. Some know eachother and will ask about how their family is doing and stuff like that. Some guys talk trash playfully, some guys just talk about random stuff trying to get into your head (Kevin Millar). The more they talk to the runners, the less focused they are on the actual game, so they can be picked off or make a stupid decision.|||a lot of times they are just saying hi, and or talking about the pitcher.....|||They bullshit.|||usually they just chat about stuff, cause alot of times they maybe used to be teammates and buddy's and talk to 1 another when they get a chance to, and just joke around, just like NBA players always do that b4 a player shoots his free throws from the line, and shake hands and bump chests b4 games start, and same in baseball, since the game is so slow at times, they just chat while a coach or catcher visits mound, and just laugh and joke around|||Say what's up and / or do some fun bantering of which team is going to win. It's not usually anything bad, if they don't like each other they just don't talk. Many times they are laughing about the hit.|||talk about strategy|||They are talking about what club they are going to hit after the game and how drunk they are going to get.

Do any baseball fans keep a strikeout meter visible during the game?
I've seen football games where people have a sac-o-meter. Do baseball fans keep a strikeout meter and adjust it with every strike out for the home team?! I'm considering doing this for a Professional fast pitch softball team's home games!|||Sometimes fans will make giant signs and hang them over the edge of a railing. They have a "K" of them showing how mnay strikeouts the pitcher has gotten (that is the home field pitcher's strikeouts).|||Yes, teams do this. AT%26amp;T Park does it and (I think) they call it the K meter (or strike out meter). They only count strikeouts for the home team. Kauffman Stadium, during Zack Grienke starts, they add a K to the end of his name after one of his strikeouts, so it looks like this ZACKKKKKK.
I'm sure other teams do this as well.

When did baseball players start wearing their pants over their socks?
Traditionally baseball players wear their socks over the bottom of their pants up to the knee. Most major league ball players wear their pants over the socks down to the shoes. I am curious as to when this started.|||I looked through World Series pictures. This didn't happen in the 60s series even once. In fact, I first found it in the 90s pictures.
